One of the more obvious symbols found on tombstones is the hand pointing
upwards...or "heavenwards", as the case may be. This indicates the promise or hope of heaven.
The pictured symbol is from the tombstone of John and Mary Hamilton, interred in White Eyes Cemetery near Coshocton, Ohio. Both died in the 1880's. Photo by LSPratt.
