Poe's Gravesite--A Pleasant Surprise

In December of 2005, my hubby and i found ourselves in Baltimore, Maryland for a towing convention.  I had given no thought to the significance of the location until, upon arriving at our hotel room, i discovered a magazine listing local sights of interest--one of them being the gravesite of Edgar Allan Poe!  Deep in the inner recesses of my mind i knew that Poe (along with Maria Clemm and Virginia Poe) was buried there, but that particular bit of trivia had failed to register with me whilst making plans for our Baltimore trip.

Baltimore traffic is hectic, to say the least, and is not conducive to finding local tourist attractions, particularly when one is a clueless out-of-towner.  Fayette Street was found easily enuff, but Westminster Cemetery eluded us on two different occassions.  We made one last attempt at locating it the morning we set out to leave Maryland.  Thankfully, traffic was relatively light and somewhat slower-paced, which aided us in finding the small church and graveyard hiding in the shadows of a modern metropolis.  We were unable to get into the gated yard, but blessedly Poe's grave rests in the corner nearest the street, which allowed me to snap these treasured shots.
